Tokyo to Mt Fuji

Day 1

Stacks Image 7297
After a bit of easy street riding to get used to your motorcycle, you will be leaving Tokyo on a brief stretch of highway. First-timer to Japan, and can't read any Japanese traffic signs? No worries!
We set up your navigation unit with a special set of waypoints that guide you out of the city in the easiest to understand way, using the least crowded roads.

Ride out out along the Tomei Expressway, and stop for a quick coffee at Ebina Service area before continuing along to the Mazda Turnpike entrance at Odawara and up to Hakone and Lake Ashinoko for a brief stop and some photos.
Leaving Hakone you will ride along the Ashinoko Skyline which winds along the mountain tops giving great views of Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashi and Hakone.

Follow the Skyline to Gotemba and on along the northern slopes of Mt. Fuji and Lake Yamanaka.

If you arrive in the area a bit early, and time permits, we recommend a scenic ride up the Fuji Subaru line. This brings you up Mt. Fuji itself, to the highest accessible viewing spots. It's a great opportunity for some photos before continuing on your hotel in Fuji Lakes area.

Total distance is approx. 250km and it will take about 4.5-5 hrs of riding.

Day 2

Mt. Fuji to Nagiso

japan motorcycle tours ninjatours mt fuji kiso tree lined road with mountain view
As you leave Mt Fuji and the Mountain lakes this morning the road will wind its way up into the mountains giving you some great farewell views of Fuji. A quick run down the highway past Lake Suwa and on to Ina will have you into the Kiso Mountain area and some fun roads.
Just to add a little spice to your ride, my favorite route is along the old Ohira Hwy which is a fun very twisty winding road through the mountains. An alternate option is available if you want a more conservative ride.

Either option eventually leads you to Tsumago Juku, a working historic village tucked in the Kiso mountains. You can easily spend an hour or so wandering around here.

From here it is an easy cruise along country roads past Mt. Ontake to your hotel.

Day 3

Some of my favorite cruising roads await today as the route starts with a nice and windy road past Mt.Ontake and into the Southern Alps towards Takayama.

Scenery is great in almost any season and the roads are fun without being overly taxing.

"This is Japan? The rolling hills, lush green forests and beautiful colors around Mt. Ontake were amazing…a real hidden gem of a place."

Stacks Image 7795
Takayama's old town area is well worth a visit, and some of the shops and restaurants seem to be hundreds of years old, because they are!

Enjoy the early afternoon here, and take in the charm of the traditional shops and cafes.

Leaving Takayama, you will be heading back into mountains. Your deluxe accommodations are just about an hour's ride away, and we make sure to add lots of scenery and a few twisty roads along the way.

If the weather is nice we highly recommend a stop at the Shin Hotaka ropeway, which will give you a great vantage point of the Japan Alps. You will be sure to enjoy the memorable scenery, and it's just a short diversion from your course.
Stacks Image 7510
Continue down past the famous Kami Kochi national park and on to Matsumoto.
Stop and take a look at Matsumoto Castle and then on to your accommodations, particularly noteworthy for its Japanese styling and aesthetic.

"Japanese taste" is noticeable here and there, such as the flowers, lights, and pictures casually displayed in the halls. The owner shares his love of classic audio by the calming music in every room."

Matsumoto to Tokyo

Day 5

Stacks Image 7549
We have two options for today. Leaving your hotel in Matsumoto you will drive into the mountains and up to Lake Misuzu before continue along the Utsukushigahara Skyline before turning onto the famous Venus Line, which is a great road with some outstanding scenery.
Take a brief stop at the Utsukushigahara rest area, which is at 2000m, for a quick coffee and some great photos. Continuing along Venus Line you will wind your way down to Mt. Kirigame and on to Lake Suwa, this really is a great ride and you are sure to remember it.

Stacks Image 7545
The ride continues along the expressway either directly back to Tokyo or with a brief excursion along Misaka Michi for some great views of Mt. Fuji and last section of twisty roads before heading back to Tokyo.
