Tokyo to Tokushima via Ferry Transfer

Day 1

To maximize the amount of outstanding riding that you can experience in this grand circle of Japan, you will utilize an overnight ferry ride out of Tokyo that puts you in the heart of some absolutely outstanding riding. So check in with us in the afternoon for a briefing, pack your motorcycle, and you are off! Grab some dinner on the way to the ferry terminal in Tokyo Bay. Ride your motorcycle on board, and relax!

Yes, it’s a ferry transit trip and not a luxury cruise, but certainly interesting.

Enjoy a beautiful sunset and get some rest- you are going to need it!

If you are curious, there are observation rooms, and a dining room filled with vending machines selling a wide variety of foods both familiar and wildly unusual.
You have your own private room on the ferry to freshen up and get a good night's rest.

There are gender separate communal baths, and private showers as well.

Tokushima to Iya Valley
Japan motorcycle tour ninjatours Tokushima iya valley
Your ferry arrives at Tokushima around 13:30. From there, you will ride up to Iya valley through the heart of mountain ranges.

What starts out as any easy cruise up some lower valleys along the Anabuki river, winds up into some spectacular scenery around Mt Tsurugi.
The road is great fun, although a little narrow in places, and the view on a nice day is outstanding.

From Mt. Tsurugi you carry on to Oku-Iya Nijo Kazurabashi vine bridge, which is an interesting place for a brief stop and some photos.

A day riding in the mountains- the distance is not great, but it is a really fun ride. (A less challenging route is also available if required)

Leave your hotel and head up through Kyoubashira toge pass and on to the road station at Tosa Sameura for a quick snack before heading up past the Sameura Dam and the fun road which follows along the Yoshino River valley. It’s a fun scenic ride.

This is one of my favorite mountain roads. Continue along the Ishizuchi Skyline, a very twisty scenic ride, which runs along the edge of the valley towards Omogo Gorge. It’s a spectacular ride on a nice day!
Follow the Omogo River Valley down to the junction and onto a fun winding road to Kuromori Pass which will lead you to your hotel in Dogo Onsen, a famous hot spring resort town set in the mountains of Ehime.

Total distance today is about 240km and it will take about 6hrs of riding time

From Uonuma, hop onto the expressway heading north to by-pass the traffic around Niigata city. Exiting the Expressway, today’s “Intense option” diverts off into mountains to the Asahi Super Line. This can be a very challenging ride, so if you prefer a more relaxed cruise, continue on along one of my favorite seaside rides along the Sea of Japan coast.

Bandai to Nikko
Absolutely the best way to start your day is a ride along the famous Azuma Bandai Skyline. Access to this road is somewhat limited and it is open only in daylight hours and good weather, but it surely is a nice ride.

Continue the ride along the Azuma Bandai Lake Line, a nicely wooded winding country road, which will bring you back to Monterey cafe just in time for a quick rest break.

Or take the more intensive route via Higashiyama onsen and Hatoriko Kogen, which is my personal preference.
Ride to Mt. Jeans and onward to Nasu Kogen. The roads are mostly easy cruising with good surfaces, although can be somewhat narrow in places. Another strategically located cafe in Nasu Kogen awaits where you can enjoy a brief break from riding.

From Nasu Kogen you continue through attractive rural farming areas and golf courses heading for the Nichinan Momoji Line. This road is amazingly scenic in autumn. From here you continue on to your hotel in Nikko, a famous World Heritage site with lots of sightseeing options time permitting.
